Hello. I am the anon before, And I had a question about some of the clothes that I own that I think, or at least thought, might be usable for an outfit.

This is a skirt that I bought from a thirft store. I think it has a nice look at shape to it and that it fits for a classic lolita out fit. I’m worried however, because the fabric seems a bit thin and that there is too much ‘lace’.

This are a pair of boots that I also got used. They were in a good condition when I got them, but I love them so much that I wear them all the time, and it’s starting to show. I’m not too worried about the shoes however because at the very worst there is a shoe repair place close to my house.

And this is what they look like all together. I don’t have a top yet, but I’m feel like a simple white blouse would go great. I am wearing a petticoat under the skirt, but only one.

Do you have any tips? Should I use the skirt and the boots? Do I have my skirt too high? Any information will be useful.

And sorry for taking up your time mod. Thank you for you help.

That shirt is absolutely GORGEOUS and perfect for a Classic or even Country Lolita look! Those boots are perfect as well and go great with the skirt! If you are worried about the skirt being to thin or the lace being a bit see-through, you can always purchase a cheap slip, but make sure it can fit a circle skirt and petticoat. :3

The skirt is perfect where it is and the petticoat looks fine, it still pulls the skirt out a bit. Me personally, I would want it a bit more full. You’re right though! A simple white blouse would go absolutely great with this look.

Other accessories I would suggest would be a cute straw hat with maybe a similar green ribbon! That would look so cute. And maybe some white socks with lacy tips, they don’t have to be above the knee either, just a little showing above the boot would be super cute as well. And if you like gloves, maybe some small white lacy ones. :3

I love it though. <3 Great first co-ord.

Anonymous: what would you consider casual lolita?

I would consider Casual Lolita to be more laid back and plain, maybe skirts coordinated with cut-sews/tops rather that fancy ruffled/lacey blouses. Flat Mary Janes rather than higher heels or platforms. Cardigans. I’ll post a few examples of Casual Lolita or what I believe Casual Lolita to be. :3

Here is a better definition: http://www.lolitafashion.org/casual_lolita.html X3

Anonymous: ive always have been into lolita especially gothic lolita and with living in florida i have never actually worn it because ive never seen someone in person wear it and im too afraid to wear that kind of clothes out here bc its so out of place even tho i love it. i wish i could be someone that wouldnt care if i got weird looks or even mean comments, but do u know anyone that started wearing it in a place that has no one else that does and it went ok?

Well I only know one person here where I live who wears Lolita. I am lucky however to be the kind of person who doesn’t care about weird looks. I understand how you’re feeling though. <3 I’m not sure of someone with a similar situation, but I know with me when I go out, I get so many sweet individual’s who compliment my outfit and even politely ask about the fashion. :3

If you want to feel more comfortable wearing Lolita outside, you could maybe try some Casual Lolita outfits first. You could also see if there are any EGL Meet’s in Florida or around there you can attend, to meet knew Lolita’s and feel more comfortable that you’re not alone. :3

Anonymous: If we have a skirt/dress that is not made by a brand that fits the style of a lolita, is that alright?

Of course. :3 Don’t be afraid to wear off-brand. Especially when you’re starting out. I love off-brand, I think some of the most unique and beautiful co-ords are off-brand.

If you have pictures of your first outfit, please submit! I would love to have it on my blog. And if you’re still a bit worried about it being off-brand, just simply state that it’s you’re first co-ord, although I’m sure it would be lovely. :3

I actually submitted my first outfit to EGL Comm Livejournal and everything was off-brand. X3 But I got absolutely no criticism there, just super helpful Lolita’s who tried to give me some pointers and it helped a lot! <3

Anonymous: I do have one more question. Where do you get 'good' petticoats and how do you know you have one? I have on petticoat that I bought at a costume store a few years ago, can I use that when making an outfit?

To be honest, I haven’t purchased enough petticoats from different brands to answer exactly where you can get the best quality petticoat. But as long as the petticoat can hold the weight of the dress well and bring it out enough so that the dress doesn’t lay flat, you’re fine. You don’t necessarily have to have the fluffiest skirt in the world to make your outfit look good. :3

You can definitely use any petticoat you purchase anywhere, but I find that if it’s not purchased at a place that makes Gothic Lolita clothing; I find that they aren’t made to hold well or really give that extra oomf to your skirt or dress. But you can always try it! I’m sure it could look great! And if you can only get that costume store petticoat, try layering two or three of them if needed. :3

Anonymous: Hello. I really want to get in to lolita fashion, but I don't know where to start. How do you suggest I get started?

Hello, Anon. :3

I think the best way to get started is to follow blogs like mine or fellow Lolita’s. Really get into the community, join EGL on LiveJournal. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, I’ve never met a Lolita who isn’t willing to help a newbie. :3
The EGL Community on LiveJournal is where I started. I looked through the memories, read up on everything I could; I examined other more experienced Lolita’s, focused on their own co-ord’s. Another great site for all this information is:

http://www.lolitafashion.org/

This site has everything you need to know about everything Lolita. It also has links to some great websites who sell this fashion. FanPlusFriend is also a really great beginners site, it’s also great for Lolita’s on a budget, I recommend it to everyone.

Good Luck! And I hope this helps. If you need anything else, just let me know. :3 <3
